Tango Beginners Course (6 wks)

Tango is based on a unique, non-verbal method of communicating with your partner. Learning Tango is about learning a new way of communication.

It is not about memorising sequences of steps. In our beginners course we give you easy access to the basic knowledge, terms and technique of Tango. It is designed for beginners and "refreshers".

At the end of the 6 weeks beginners course you will be able to apply:

  • the five fundamental steps in Tango
  • the three golden rules in Tango
  • four categories of Tango music
  • two types of stops ("paradas")
  • moving in a circle ("giro")
  • creating single and double "ochos"
  • walking and pivoting technique
  • the "magic step"
  • correct and comfortable open embrace
  • basic floor navigation skills (floor craft)
  • connecting music and movements
  • exercises you can do alone for pivots, balance and musicality

After each class you are invited to stay and practise in the two hour practica. You will feel comfortable in the practica from day one - and after the 6 weeks beginners course, ready to go to a real Tango club (=milonga) anywhere in the world and dance!

Tango Intermediate Course (4 wks)

This course is great for anyone who is comfortable with the basic Tango technique and navigation - in particular walking with the music in any direction, ochos, giros and open embrace dancing and has already some social dance experience e.g. in our practica.

The theme of this course changes every 4 weeks. Over time we cover all intermediate and advanced concepts of both traditional Tango and Tango Nuevo: boleos, sacadas, ganchos, barridas, leg wraps as well as tilted axis moves (colgadas, volcadas) and musicality training including syncopation (traspie variations).

The goal of this course is to make you a comfortable, musical and creative - or in other words "a popular" - tango dancer.

We try to adjust our intermediate classes to the current needs of our students. If you are interested in learning something particular, let us know either through the mailing list or contact klaus@funkytango.com or tel. 0415 431199, and we may be able to make it a class theme soon.
